Downloading VROM and K-STAR Using Shiva® Net Manager 2.4 Manager (555884-PV96)

This document is written for FastPath 5 system administrators. It contains a description of how to download VROM
Version 5.1 and K-STAR Version 9.1.2 to a FastPath 5 using Shiva Net Manager Version 2.4.

Downloading Using Shiva Net Manager

In order to use Shiva Net Manager to download VROM, you must be running a FastPath 5. To use Shiva Net Manager
to download K-STAR, you must be running PROM Version 5.1 on a FastPath 4 or have a FastPath 5. Use these
instructions to install your software.

Note: This procedure must be performed on a properly terminated 2-node LocalTalk* or Ethernet network. Refer to
Technical Tip #8 for information on how to set up a 2-node LocalTalk or Ethernet network.

Downloading VROM

To download VROM Version 5.1:

1. Remove your FastPath 5 from its network.

2. Launch the Shiva Net Manager application by double-clicking on its icon.
The AppleTalk* Devices window appears.

3. Select FastPath in the Device Types window, select the zone in the Zones window, and select the FastPath 5 in the

device list window.

4. Select the Open FastPath command from the Device menu.
The FastPath 5's configuration window is displayed.

5. Select the Save Configuration as... command in the FastPath menu to save the configuration to disk.
A dialog box appears so you can name the configuration file you are saving to disk.

6. Click Save to save the FastPath 5's configuration.

7. Move the pointer to the upper left-hand corner of the FastPath 5 configuration window. Position the pointer immediately

above the word "FastPath." Hold down the Command and Option keys while clicking on the word FastPath.

8. Click Continue.

The lights on the FastPath 5 go through the normal self-test sequence, and then the Power light starts flashing yellow.

Once the Power light is flashing yellow, the FastPath 5 registers its Ethernet hardware address as its name in the default
zone on Ethernet. The FastPath 5 may register in zone * on its Ethernet port, if it is the only AppleTalk router on Ethernet.

9. Select FastPath in the Device Types window, select the appropriate zone in the Zones window, and select the

FastPath 5 entry in the device list window.

10. Select the Download Image... command in the FastPath menu.

A dialog box appears asking you to select a file for downloading.

11. Double-click the kfps5vrom 5.1 11/25/91 file to be downloaded or select the image and click Open.

The Downloader dialog box appears.

The FastPath 5 restarts when the VROM download is completed. The Power light flashes green. The FastPath 5
continues to register its hardware address on both ports.

12. Proceed to the next section to download K-STAR Version 9.1.2 12/08/92.

Downloading K-STAR

To download K-STAR Version 9.1.2 12/08/92:

1. Select FastPath in the Device Types window, select the zone in the Zones window, and select the FastPath 5 entry in

the device list window.

2. Select the Download Image command in the FastPath menu.

A dialog box appears asking you to select a file for downloading.

3. Double-click the K-STAR 9.1.2 12/08/92 image to be downloaded or select the image and click Open.

The Downloader dialog box appears.

The FastPath 5 restarts when the K-STAR download is completed. The FastPath 5 auto-configures as a Phase II router.

4. Select FastPath in the Device Types window, select the appropriate zone in the Zones window, and select the

appropriate FastPath 5 entry in the device list window.

5. Select the Open FastPath command in the Device menu.

The FastPath 5's configuration window is displayed.

6. Select the Import Configuration... command in the FastPath menu.

A dialog box appears asking you to select a file for importing.

7. Open the saved configuration file.

8. The FastPath 5's name is not stored in the configuration file. With the cursor in the name field, press the delete key and

enter the correct name for the FastPath 5.

9. Verify the configuration information.

10. Select the Set Configuration & "Go" command inthe FastPath menu.

The FastPath 5 restarts, and the Power light is solid green. Allow the unit 1 minute to stabilize.

11. Check the log entries to confirm that the FastPath 5 is properly configured for your network.

12. Power off the FastPath 5 and restore it to its normal position on the network.

13. Power on the FastPath 5. Allow the unit one minute to stabilize, then check the log entries to confirm that the FastPath 5

is properly configured for your network.
